During his 34 year career, Stephen Ali has become one of the premiere upholsterers and furniture restorers, commissioning projects from across the world. Over this time, Stephen has amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise on historic furniture and interiors, whilst working for prominent antique dealers, interior designers and national heritage organisations such as Partridge Fine Arts, Ronald Phillips, Chester Jones, Historic Royal Palaces and English Heritage.
Recently, Stephen had the privilege of holding the title of Senior Conservator and Restorer of Upholstery at The Royal Household. Over a period of five years and from workshops in the grounds of Windsor Castle, he used his skills and knowledge to upholster and restore furniture from the Household’s of Her Majesty the Queen, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Princess Michael of Kent and the Duchess of Gloucester. Stephen has also upholstered furniture for display at The Royal Collection, Queen’s Gallery exhibitions and the State Apartments of both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
Some of Stephen’s most memorable projects include silk wall hanging in the Partridge Fine Arts Mayfair gallery, Kenwood House Library window seats and the upholstery conservation and renovation of the Thrones of State, Hillsborough Castle.
